Angus Trumble, the previous director of the National Portrait Gallery, passed away at the age of 58. The National Portrait Gallery issued a statement on Thursday after learning of Mr. Trumble’s passing. The National Portrait Gallery was “heartbroken to hear of the unexpected passing of former director Angus Trumble,” the statement continued.
“Angus was a charismatic, forward-thinking, and liked leader. We are all inconsolable over his passing, and all of his friends at the photo gallery will sincerely miss him. Our thoughts are currently with his family.
Australian academic, curator, and writer Angus Trumble also wrote novels. He served as director of the National Portrait Gallery of Australia, senior research fellow at the National Museum of Australia, curator at the Art Gallery of South Australia and Yale University’s Center for British Art, and author of books like A Brief History of the Smile and The Finger: A Handbook.
