Brent Hallett and Carmelita Hallett had been dating for 28 years and intended to stay together much longer.
The pair made the decision that life was “too short” to just let it pass them by at the height of the COVID pandemic, 18 months ago. So they decided to retire early and embark on a global journey.
The Halletts were married there in 1999, so they intended to spend a little more time there at their final stop, a prolonged stay of several months in Las Vegas, Nevada.
On October 6, Brent Hallett was fatally murdered just 15 days before the Hallett family was scheduled to travel to central Alberta.
Hallett’s wife Carmelita recalled him saying to her, “I don’t think I’m going to make it.”
Eight people were stabbed, including Hallett, in what Las Vegas police said seemed to be an attack on showgirls.
Six counts of attempted murder and two counts of murder have been brought against Yoni Barios, 32.
