A well-known former Newry businessman who passed away today (Friday) after a protracted medical fight has been remembered.
Declan McChesney was the devoted husband of Maryanne and the adored father to Keith, Lauren, and Greg. He owned and operated Cahill Brothers Shoes on Hill Street for 47 years.
Declan was once vice president of the Newry Chamber of Commerce, which paid respect by calling him a “passionate Newry supporter.”
137 years prior to its closing in May 2021, Declan’s great-uncles from Castleblayney founded Cahill Brothers Shoes.
Declan traveled extensively around Italy while working as a wholesale agent, importing some of the top high-end fashion shoe companies in Europe , Spain, Portugal and Ireland as a result.
