Former Premier League forward, Gabriel Agbonlahor has told Manchester United to make Marcus Rashford the club’s highest earner or watch him leave Old Trafford.
Agbonlahor believes the rumoured ‘Cristiano Ronaldo rules’, which allows only £200,000 a week for every player, could chase the England international out of the club.
Paris Saint-Germain have publicly made their interest to sign the 25-year-old from Manchester United and Agbonlahor believes the French champions could be his destination.
Erik ten Hag is looking to set a salary cap at Manchester United which would only allow any player at the club to be earning nothing above £200,000 a week.
Rashford’s contract expires at the end of next season and the former Aston Villa captain believes no rule should stop the England World Cup star, who is already earning £200,000 a week, from earning more.
He told The Daily Express, “I think the big problem is the rumor of the ‘Ronaldo clause’. If the Ronaldo clause is there, then there are going to be exceptions. Because if they want to keep Marcus Rashford, he’s going to be the best-paid player with the club.
“So, they’re going to have to pay Rashford probably £350k [per week] for him to stay, and he’s got every right because the form he’s been in, he deserves to be the highest paid.”
