The deceased shooter in an alleged murder-suicide that claimed the lives of Erik Bergum’s divorced wife, his mother, and his father on Thursday in Erie County has been identified as a resident of Buffalo, New York.
Nancy Bergum, 64, Mary Beth Bergum, 37, and Mark Bergum, 66, were all shot and died on Thursday in a murder-suicide. 43-year-old Eric Bergum later committed suicide.
According to accounts, father-of-four Eric Bergum shot and killed his wife, mother, and father in separate New York locales on Thursday before turning the gun on himself at a shooting range.
According to officials, his four children were in school when the killings took place.
On Thursday, Erik Bergum’s body was discovered next to his father’s at the outdoor shooting range in Newstead, northeast of Buffalo. According to wgauradio, Mark Bergum was shooting at the range when his son joined him.
Sheriff John Garcia reported that the deaths of Mary Beth Bergum, Erik Bergum’s wife, and Nancy Bergum, Erik Bergum’s mother, were found at two different homes in the town of Clarence as a result of the inquiry.
Authorities claimed that a note written by Erik Bergum that was discovered in his car detailed the murders, proving that he had premeditated the shooting rampage. The motive was not stated in the note.
Investigators think Bergum killed his mother at his mother’s residence after shooting his wife first.
After murdering the women, Erik Bergum was able to drive to a remote shooting range, where he joined his father for target practice before shooting him. Garcia found it chilling. According to the sheriff, murder-suicides are frequently acts of passion.
According to Flynn, Mark Bergum informed a witness at the shooting range earlier that his son would be joining him, and the witness shifted aside to make room.
Authorities claimed that Erik Bergum and a partner ran a home security and home theater company. In 2011, Bergum was found guilty of misdemeanor insurance fraud connected to the company and was sentenced to probation.
Maryland is where Mary Beth Bergum is originally from. According to Garcia, her father was on his way to western New York on Friday.
