Francis Castonguay Death – Francis Castonguay, a former volleyball player with the Young Stallions, tragically passed away suddenly.
David Kirkpatrick Wrote on Facebook – I’m thankful I could call this guy right here my friend. Frankie treated me like a little brother, in our younger years we played lots of volleyball together, travelling across the province for years and almost always being roommates on the road.
Frankie was a huge part of our ” Young Stallions” volleyball team. He referred to us as the “young stallions plus the old mule”…referring to himself as the old mule lol.
Frankie was great to us younger guys on this team and likely kept a lot of us out of trouble, by keeping us on a good path and always watching out for us with some good old fashioned life advice from time to time.
He was one of our middle blockers, he could hit the ball from the middle both left handed or right handed. We all had many high fives over them years and I was blessed to have him as a teammate and a friend.
It had been over 20 years since we all got together and this summer we made it happen. A reunion so we could all catch up with each other as a group of old friends and teammates who all took different paths all over the country.
Frankie, on behalf of our old team, thank you for being our friend and teammate. You could have played on pretty much any team you wanted back then but stuck with us younger local boys because you said we made you feel young again and wanted to be part of building up the game again in our area.
We won provincials in 1999 before a jam packed gym up in Shippigan against a team from Northern NB. That gym sure emptied fast after our celebration and the ceremony.
We were all sitting absolutely exhausted on the bench in the gym half dressed and getting ready to leave and you said to us all out of the blue, “ how the hell did we just win provincials with 6 players?” He let out his famous laugh, then said “…well that shows that it don’t take the 6 best players to make the best team we just proved that, us bunch of rednecks pulled it off boys let’s go home our work is done here”. Lol
Frank was the only New Jersey Devils fan outside of New Jersey I think lol.
RIP buddy, thanks for all the fun times, the laughs, and the pointers, not only on the volleyball court but also in life.
I was lucky to get to see you more often over the last few years at work. I will sure miss your quick visits at work just to check in with me, and solve the world’s problems with me.
Cheers to you Francis Castonguay. Love ya buddy.!
