The lawyer and Putin confidante Talija Chabrieva is registered in Montreux and owns a luxury apartment there.

She played a key role in securing Putin’s power in Russia and allowing him more years as head of state.

According to the Russian opposition party Yabloko she has been richly rewarded for her services by the Kremlin.

Taliya Khabrieva, the Russian lawyer who Wladimir Putin owes a large part of his power, is registered in Montreux VD and owns a luxury apartment there. It should be 118 square meters and cost around 1.6 million francs.

Their apartment is not in the prettiest house in Montreux, but in a new building in a prime location with a view of Lake Geneva and the Alps, they say Tamedia newspapers. And the concierge of the luxury building reveals: “Almost only Russians live here.”

She helped Putin to power

Khabrieva, who is registered here on the seventh floor, is little known outside of Russia but has played a key role in securing Putin’s power and turning the country into an autocracy.

In January 2020, for example, Putin appointed the constitutional law expert Khabrieva to co-head a task force to fundamentally change the Russian constitution, the Tamedia newspapers report. Thanks to the constitutional changes, it is possible for Putin to run for six-year terms in the 2024 and 2030 elections and theoretically stay in power for another fourteen years. The legislative changes also gave Putin, who has ruled Russia on a four-year hiatus since 2000, more power over parliament.

She was Russia’s “Lawyer of the Year” several times

Khabrieva was born in Kazan, Russia, in 1958. She quickly rose through the ranks as a lawyer and became a member of the Council of Europe. She has been named Russia’s “Lawyer of the Year” several times, and Putin personally shook her hand.

In Russia, Khabrieva moves in the inner circles of the Kremlin and has close contacts with Sergei Naryshkin, the former head of the presidential administration, who now heads the foreign intelligence service SWR. And: Her husband, Ramil Khabriev, headed the Russian anti-doping agency Rusada at the time when the Russian sports world was being shaken by massive doping scandals.

According to the Russian opposition party Yabloko the couple was richly rewarded for their services by the Kremlin. In addition to the apartment in Montreux, Chabriewa is said to also own a luxury villa in a Moscow suburb worth six million francs. Chabriewa has only given a total family income of 3.2 million francs over the past eight years.

Khabrieva defends “crimes of the Putin regime”

Because Chabrieva dem President Putin being so close, she is practically immune from the Russian judiciary. Alexey Karnakhov, head of the Yabloko Anti-Corruption Center, says: «Khabrieva is among the main architects of Putin’s constitutional changes that will ensure his lifelong rule and the retreat of democracy in Russia. She also defended the annexation of Crimea and other crimes by the Putin regime.” Nevertheless, it has so far been spared Western sanctions.

It is not known how often Taliya Khabrieva is in Switzerland, but according to Russian reports, she is said to have left on February 23, one day before the invasion of Ukrainestayed in Montreux.
